Just Got Lucky: My Life in Pop by Paul Simper

Dear Poptastic Readers,

If you love 80s British pop music, you need to buy Paul Simper's upcoming book Just Got Lucky: My Life in Pop.

Just who is Paul Simper? First and foremost he is a music journalist. Check out paulsimper.com for more information. For me, I know him best as half of the 90s music duo Slippry Feet with Jacquie O'Sullivan (formerly of Bananarama). Click here to see an interview I did with Jacquie.

Paul describes his upcoming book this way ...
‘Just Got Lucky: My Life in Pop’ is a memoir of the early days of one of pop’s most successful eras: the 1980s. It’s an account of how a wide-eyed, wet-behind-the-ears lad from Wiltshire happened to land in London just as the capital’s club scene went into orbit, giving me unique access as a pop writer and fellow clubber to what would become the biggest pop acts of the decade: Spandau Ballet, Wham, Sade, Bananarama, Duran Duran, Culture Club, Frankie Goes To Hollywood amongst others. It is also the tale of my own attempts at pop stardom with the help of former ‘Nana Miss Jacqueline O’Sullivan and an unexpected bonus career as a showbiz party DJ for the likes of Prince, Whitney, Elton and even Al Pacino.
Most crucially though, I’m hoping this book will provide me with a proper bona fide justification to my wife for 35 years of hoarding what she likes to refer to as “that pop shit under the stairs.” Everything from cassettes of my Melody Maker, New Sounds New Styles and No.1 interviews (here using the crucial bits that never made it into print) to pop star doodles to hand-written readers’ polls (some interesting choices by Mr George Michael) and even an unreleased demo of Slippry Feet, mine and Jacquie’s disco duo which (spoiler alert) never quite made it as big as Bananarama or Spandau (or even Jive Bunny).
So fellow hoarders and ‘80s pop enthusiasts, if any of the above tickles your fancy then this is the book for you.

If that wasn't enough to convince you to buy the book, watch this ....

How do you order the book? It's quite simple. Go to the book's website and make a pledge. There is even an excerpt from the book there.

I pledged £40 so I could get the Slippry Feet song!

Don't delay! Make you pledge today!

Cheers then,

How Long by Sannie

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Remember Whigfield? She is the singer who had a massive hit in the 90s with "Saturday Night." And her song "4 Ever" came in at #4 on our 2012 Top 20 countdown. We even highly praised her 2012 album W and urged for more singles in 2013. Well, she is back! But this time around she is going by her given name: Sannie.

Why Whigfield? According to Wikipedia, she used the name Whigfield as a tribute to her piano teacher. Sannie has also recorded under the name Naan when she recorded "Feel Alive" with Benassi Bros. in 2005.

The new song "How Long" has the cutest video featuring the sweetest woman who is pretending to be someone she isn't. Check it out ... (BTW, Sannie is the bar tender!)

Wasn't that awesome? I quite like the laid-back feeling of the song. You'll notice that the video is the Grant Nelson Remix. The original version is slightly more low-key.

Both the original version and the video remix are available on digital outlets everywhere. Don't delay! Buy it today!

Cheers then,
—Davearama
